NCA Paper Development Workshop 2022
The NCA Development team is organizing the 2nd Annual Paper Development Workshop in October this year. The goal of the annual Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) Paper Development Workshop is to help scholars who use NCA in their research to write a convincing paper that makes a valuable contribution to the literature. The paper development workshop is one of the many events organized by the NCA Development Team. If you are looking for a more hands-on workshop or webinar on the application of NCA, please have a look at our Events and Training page.
Workshop Goals
The goal of the annual Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) Paper Development Workshop is to help scholars who use NCA in their research to write a convincing paper that makes a valuable contribution to the literature.
What type of paper do I need to submit?
We invite submissions of manuscripts that use NCA as the main logic and data analysis approach or combine NCA with other methods. These other methods include regression-based methods—such as OLS regression, Multiple Linear Regression, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) or Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM)—or set theoretic methods like Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). Furthermore, it is possible that you use NCA in a more qualitative or exploratory research context, although the training will focus on quantitative research.
What type of support will I receive?
You will get support on:
- How to formulate your necessity theory and hypotheses
- How to use NCA to analyze your data
- How to interpret NCA results
- How to discuss your results
You will get feedback on your work from fellow researchers and members of the NCA development team.
What will the workshop look like?
The workshop will take place online on Thursday, October 13. The exact time of the workshop will depend on the time zones of the participants and will be communicated later. During the three-hour workshop there will be in-depth discussions about NCA and how to apply NCA to your theory, your data, and your data analysis. The discussions are in small groups of researchers with similar interests, guided by an NCA expert from the NCA Development team.
Who can participate?
We invite researchers from any discipline in the social, technical, (bio)medical sciences and humanities to apply for the workshop. We assume that you are familiar with NCA, and that you have a dataset that contains one or more potential necessary conditions. Previous attendance of another NCA event—such as the NCA summer course or an NCA conference workshop—will help you make the most out of this workshop. To ensure high-quality interactions, the maximum number of participants is 12. We will select candidates based on the quality of the abstract, their knowledge of NCA, and their motivation for attending the workshop.
What are the costs of the workshop?
The workshop is free of charge.
How can I apply?
You can apply by uploading an extended abstract and filling out the online application form by following this link by Friday, August 26, 2022. You will be notified of our decision no later than Friday, September 2, 2022.
Applications are now closed.
